The Canimex Group acquires a welding robot using a technology unique in North America
Drummondville, September 25, 2017 – The Canimex Group, leader in the manufacturing and international trade of industrial components assuring power transmission and metallurgical work, is pleased to announce the acquisition of a brand-new welding robot for its affiliate, Outillage de précision Drummond inc. (OPD).
Developed at a cost of half a million dollars, the welding robot is the result of the joint expertise of the teams at OPD, ESAB (world leader in the production of welding and cutting equipment and consumables) and Yaskawa (the biggest global manufacturer of inverters, servo-controls, automatic controls and robotic automation systems).
As explained by Marc Chénier, General Manager at OPD, the three companies took on the technical challenge represented by the installation of a robotic welding cell, including a welding device and its WeldCloud control (manufactured by ESAB) on a robot offering two moulding tables (manufactured by Yaskawa). "The union of this expertise materialized through the connection of the two systems to form a robotic welding cell, a first in North America," Mr. Chénier pointed out.
This technology offers many advantages, including remarkable welding quality and precision, better weld path drawing, repetitive performance, and increased productivity due to its much higher workflow. "All these advantages directly benefit our customers, because our projects now are carried out within much shorter deadlines with exceptional quality finishing. Thus, the welding robot allows us to perform jobs that meet the highest quality standards, which are now required by several customers," Mr. Chénier specified.
For Daniel Dubois, Vice-President of the Canimex Group, this new acquisition perfectly supports the company's growth strategy. "The many major investments made over the past few years are consolidating Canimex's position as a reference in the industrial component manufacturing sector. Its competencies and knowhow allow it to offer services on the technological cutting edge and optimize business partnerships at the local, national and international levels," Mr. Dubois explains.
