Last September, Yanick Pétrin and Vicky Dubé, a young couple from Drummondville, launched a crowdfunding campaign to acquire a hyperbaric chamber for their two-year-old, Félix, who suffers from West syndrome.

West syndrome is a rare form of epilepsy, manifested in a series of involuntary muscle contractions (spasms). It is accompanied by slowing, and even regression, of the child's development. In Quebec, this syndrome affects about one in 20,000 births.

The young couple's objectives was to raise the $25,000 necessary to purchase a hyperbaric chamber and install it in the family home.

Roger Dubois, President of the Canimex Group, could not remain insensitive to the Pétrin family's situation. As soon as he was informed, the Canimex Group proceeded to acquire a hyperbaric chamber, which was delivered to the Pétrin family home this November 3.

"As a full member of the community, the Canimex Group is happy to support such a vital cause as that of Félix. The purchase of a hyperbaric chamber is a way for us to give back to society part of what it gives us," explains Mr. Dubois, who has five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

According to Félix's father, the daily hyperbaric treatments at home will significantly improve their son's quality of life, and their own. Currently, each hyperbaric treatment brings a wave of optimism. "Félix is calmer and in a better mood for learning. He's no longer in a bubble and eye contact is easier. Previously, Félix was a little ball of energy who never stopped moving and threw his toys instead of discovering them. Now he's able to take them in his hands and put them away in containers. He is discovering and becoming aware of the world around him. It's extraordinary," Mr. Pétrin explains.

For nearly 50 years, the Canimex Group has encouraged a corporate culture oriented to the art of giving. Through charitable activities that particularly take the form of donations, volunteer work and sponsorships, the Canimex Group and its employees never hesitate to show compassion for those who are most in need. The Group encourages companies and individuals who can do so to show generosity, especially with the arrival of the Holiday season.

All the Canimex Group's employees wish Félix and his family good luck.
